kickstart norgarden
In Skogome, just outside Gothenburg, a new meeting place is emerging where sustainable food culture, local food production and community are at the center. Through the Leader project Kickstart Norgården, a shared kitchen has been built - a key function that opens up for courses, events and collaborations that strengthen both the countryside and local associations.
”We have created the kitchen we dreamed of – a place where people can meet, cook together and realize their ideas. It is more than a kitchen – it is a gathering point for community, learning and sustainable development.”
About the project
Kickstart Norgården – a vibrant meeting place for sustainable food culture in Skogome
With the Kickstart Norgården project, the Association for the Development of Norgården Skogome has created an open and vibrant place for sustainable food culture, public education and community. Norgården is located on the border between city and country in Skogome, where several small-scale growers already operate. To take the business further, the association built a shared kitchen and improved the farm's ability to receive visitors all year round.
The association built the kitchen from two repurposed school barracks and equipped it for food production. They also added an accessible patio that serves as both a serving area and a meeting place. In parallel, they improved the water and electricity in the barn, opening up new activities on the farm.
Business is picking up speed
The kitchen makes it possible for the association and other actors to cook, process and serve food on site. Small food producers, private individuals and associations now have access to a kitchen without having to bear the entire cost themselves. The association has also carried out several events and established new partnerships, including with Västmat, Backatorp IF and Gothenburg Foodfest.
Today, the kitchen is ready and the association is looking ahead. They have developed an action plan for sustainable operations and gathered stakeholders who want to use the kitchen for everything from cooking classes and harvest dinners to yoga classes and soup kitchens. With the kitchen in place, it will be easier to attract new members, create new activities and realize new ideas on the farm.
The Association for Development Norgården Skogome
”"With the shared kitchen, we want to lower the thresholds for small food producers and entrepreneurs to dare to test their ideas. Norgården should be a place where local food, creativity and new collaborations can grow."”
