Development of locally produced ice cream
In Sjövik along road 190, Nellie's café & diner is developing its artisanal ice cream production with a focus on local ingredients and unique flavors. Through new investments in production, better conditions are created for increased tourism, more visitors and strengthened local food production.
About the project
The project aims to strengthen and streamline local ice cream production by investing in a new pasteurizer and a larger display freezer. More modern equipment will increase production, improve the working environment and ensure quality at every stage – from heating and maturing the ice cream batter to the finished product. The investment will make it possible to produce larger volumes and offer more flavors at the same time.
The background is a growing demand for artisanal ice cream without additives, based on local ingredients. The business is located along Route 190 – Retrovägen – where many visitors pass year-round. By developing ice cream production, both the company's competitiveness and the area's attractiveness as a tourist destination are strengthened, while local suppliers of milk, berries and other ingredients are benefited.
The project also includes the development of new products, such as seasonal ice cream flavors and homemade wafers, which broadens the range and creates a clearer profile. The new equipment enables more energy-efficient and resource-saving production, with reduced waste and shorter supply chains as a result.
The goal is to increase the number of visitors, create conditions for a year-round job in the business and contribute to more collaborations with local producers. In the long term, the investment will lead to increased tourism in Sjövik and strengthen the area as a vibrant stop along Retrovägen, where crafts, local food and experiences meet.
